Gulfport, MS child care centers can fund a van or indoor play equipment with an equipment loan, movable classroom furnishings with a term loan, and teacher payroll while a new room enrolls with working capital. Rowancroft Lending passes the center's request to funding partners; each one reviews it and sets its own terms.
An article from Rowancroft Lending in Gulfport, Mississippi on how child care centers pay for rooms, vans and staff ahead of tuition, with Harrison County figures and invented examples.
Classrooms, vans and indoor play equipment for Gulfport, MS centers
A center's purchases fall into three groups. Durable equipment, such as a passenger van, cribs, cots, child-sized tables and indoor play equipment, can secure its own loan. Movable classroom furnishings and self-contained sinks can have supplier quotes; outdoor play structures, fixed walls, flooring and fencing are outside this site. Staff is the third group, and it is paid every month whether the rooms are full or not.
For the invented $52,000 passenger van, the 60-month 9.5% schedule costs $1,092.10 monthly and $65,526.00 in total. A partner may ask for the van's specification and insurance, because a vehicle that carries children has its own coverage requirements.
Centers are staff-heavy. The 53 child day care establishments with paid staff in Harrison County, MS employed 648 people and paid $16.18 million in annual payroll in 2023, about $24,972 per employee by our arithmetic, and only 12 of them, 22.6%, had fewer than five employees (County Business Patterns, NAICS 624410), against 45.9% of all 4,368 employer establishments in the county. In ZIP 39501, the ZIP Code Business Patterns file counted 11 child day care establishments in 2023, a ZIP figure rather than a city count.
Payroll while a new room fills
Required child-to-staff ratios mean a new classroom needs its teachers on the first day, while enrollment builds over the following months. The gap between the room's cost and its tuition is a working capital need with a known end: the month the room covers itself.
Illustration only, invented figures: a new room costs $8,300 a month ($7,400 of teacher payroll and $900 of supplies and food), and each enrolled child pays $760 a month. Enrollment grows by two children a month:
| Month | Children enrolled | Tuition | Room cost covered? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Month 1 | 2 | $1,520 | $6,780 short |
| Month 2 | 4 | $3,040 | $5,260 short |
| Month 3 | 6 | $4,560 | $3,740 short |
| Month 4 | 8 | $6,080 | $2,220 short |
| Month 5 | 10 | $7,600 | $700 short |
| Month 6 | 12 | $9,120 | $820 over |
The room runs short in each of the first 5 months and covers itself in month 6. The shortfalls come to $18,700, which is the amount a working capital request would name, plus a cushion if enrollment builds more slowly. The working capital page explains terms and what partners review.
Lease, enrollment and tuition records a lender reviews
A center's file shows a partner how the business earns and what it owes. The records can include:
- The lease, with its remaining term and any landlord consent for fencing or room changes.
- An enrollment roster by room and a waiting list, if the center keeps one.
- Tuition receipts and, where the center accepts them, child care subsidy payment records.
- Business tax returns, bank statements and the payroll register.
The lease matters too. For a movable-classroom package financed over seven years, a partner can review the lease term and renewal options; fixed room work is excluded. A center that owns its building is in a different position, but Rowancroft Lending does not arrange mortgages or commercial real estate loans, so a building purchase or refinance goes to a real estate lender.
Smaller providers are counted separately. Nonemployer Statistics found 515 child care services businesses with no paid employees in Harrison County, MS in 2024 (NAICS 62441, the closest code that program publishes). The daycare centers page covers movable classroom equipment, hiring and indoor play equipment.
Equipment loan or term loan for a Harrison County, MS center
A center buying a van and movable classroom furnishings at the same time can ask for one loan or two. A partner can set a separate term for each purchase: the van over its working life and the furnishings over a period supported by the center's income.
Illustration only, invented figures: the $52,000 van on a 60-month equipment loan at 9.5% costs $65,526.00 in total. A $45,000 movable-classroom package on an 84-month term loan at 11% costs $64,722.84; fixed room work is excluded. The separate schedules total $130,248.84. Putting all $97,000 on one 84-month term loan at 11% costs $1,660.88 a month and $139,513.92 in total, $9,265.08 more, because the van is paid off over seven years instead of five and at 11% instead of 9.5%.
The single loan has a lower monthly payment, which can matter while a new room fills; the split costs less over time. Term loans and equipment financing each have their own page. A center director can call (228) 261-9974 or fill in the request form; rosters come later. Other topics are on the article list.
